About Us

What is the Cost?

Initial and Ongoing Ownership Costs

Initial and Ongoing Ownership Costs

Initial and Ongoing Ownership Costs

At Wine & Whiskey Organisation, our position as direct stockists means we supply whisky casks straight from the source - avoiding the added profit margins charged by many whisky brokers. This ensures our clients receive exceptional value and access to premium casks at competitive prices.

Initial costs include the purchase price of the cask and a modest administrative fee. Ongoing costs apply only after the first five years, with storage and insurance charged at just €/£85 per year, per cask. We also recommend a cask regauge - a full health check or “MOT” -  every three to five years, priced at £85. Once completed, clients receive updated cask details and valuations to track their investment’s growth.

At Wine & Whiskey Organisation, we offer a range of optional services to help you maximise the enjoyment and value of your whiskey cask investment:

  • Re-racking a Cask - Transfer the contents into a different cask type (e.g., bourbon to sherry) to influence flavour and character.
  • Drawing Samples - Perfect for special occasions, we arrange every detail so you can taste your maturing whisky.
  • Bottling a Cask - Through our dedicated Wine & Whiskey Bottling division, we handle the entire process - from bottle and stopper design to labelling, packaging, and secure delivery.

Wine and Whiskey are more than happy and capable in meeting these requirements and can provide detailed pricing upon request for all the aforementioned options.

Tax Benefits

Capital Gains Tax

Under HMRC rules, whiskey casks are classed as a “wasting asset” with a lifespan of under 50 years. This means profits from whiskey cask investments are exempt from Capital Gains Tax (CGT) for IRE & UK residents. This exemption also applies to overseas clients who are UK-domiciled.

Inheritance Tax

Many clients at Wine & Whiskey Organisation purchase casks as part of their long-term estate planning. Incorporating whiskey casks into a trust or gifting strategy can help reduce Inheritance Tax (IHT) liabilities. Our specialists can guide you on how whiskey cask ownership can form part of a tax-efficient legacy plan

VAT and Duty

No VAT or Duty is due while a cask is 'in bond' at an HMRC licensed warehouse. VAT and Duty become payable when the whiskey is taken out of bond, such as for sampling or bottling.

Cask Ownership Confirmation

At Wine & Whiskey Organisation, every whiskey cask investment begins with a comprehensive assessment of each client’s goals and circumstances. We ensure every cask is carefully matched to your investment strategy, whether you are a collector, investor, or enthusiast.

Once your purchase objectives are agreed upon, our specialists will provide a written cask recommendation detailing why the chosen cask meets your investment criteria. This includes full specifications, provenance, and storage details.

To proceed with your whiskey cask purchase, a deposit or full payment will be required, with the balance settled in line with agreed payment terms issued by our accounts department.

Upon completion, you will be registered as the Ultimate Beneficial Owner of the cask. Your cask will be stored in a secure HMRC-bonded warehouse, where Wine & Whiskey Organisation is listed as the licensed custodian. This ensures you retain full legal ownership of your asset while enjoying the benefits of expert storage and management.
